This is Sad...

A young American college student was killed today as she tried to stop an IDF bulldozer from tearing down a house in the Gaza strip.

I cannot help but wonder what sorts of things she had been taught, either at home or in school. Why would she think that trying to defend the perpetrators of terrorism from the consequences of their attacks was a moral action?

Rachel belonged to a group called the Innternational Solidarity Campaign, a group with a long record of clashes with, and arrests by, the IDF.

They've attempted to stop several other IDF operations, to include the seige of Arafat's compound months back. Funnily enough, many of the dozen or so news accounts I read about this fail to mention that, and described her just a "peace activist."

I Just Knew...

...when it said she was 23 and from Olympia, Washington, that they were going to say she was an Evergreen student, and sure enough, it does say that towards the end of the article.

That's my school. My classes, though taught on the Grays Harbor Community College campus here in Aberdeen, are Evergreen State College classes. I am a "Greener." Evergreen is an interesting place--kinda gives a whole new meaning to "liberal" arts. I would hazard a guess that she was probably taught that social activism was a good thing, that you should work for the rights and the betterment of the poor and downtrodden and disadvantaged. How that gets her to the point of throwing her body in front of a bulldozer in the Gaza strip I don't know. Dog knows there are plenty of poor and downtrodden and disadvantaged on our own side of the water--no need to go look for them on some other continent.
