I Think I'm in Lurrve... Ok, so here I am, minding my own business, noodling around in the newsgroups looking for some fresh copyright violations, just to piss Orrin Hatch off. Perusing alt.binaries.sound.mp3.blues, I see a set of songs by one "Candye Kane." I'm thinking how odd that somebody would take the name of a porn star as a stage name. One of the tunes listed was "Whole Lotta Love." Hmmm, I say to myself. Interesting. Wonder how they're gonna bring that tune back to the blues. (For you blues-unedumacated folk, the song that you think of as a Led Zep tune was a souped up cover of a song written by Willie Dixon called "You Need Love.") So, I queued it up, along with a dozen or so other songs by some folks I never heard of, and left the house to resume my normal broadcast day. Came home, and fired it up. Yowza! I'm talking a strong, clear, ballsy voice, tremendous phrasing, a classic blues diva. A keeper. I immediately scurried back over the the newsgroups to catch the rest of the album before it dropped off the server. Fired up a tune called "27 Times." Holy Frijole... I'd post it here, but I can't post a file over 1 MG, so you have to go dredge it up yourself. This woman could bench press Paducah with her voice. I'm thinking that she could stop bullets (a la' The Matrix) with a good strong high C. I shit you not. I listened to her stuff for four hours straight. So, just who is this woman, I wondered. Googling "Candye Kane" and "blues" takes you to her home page. I'm sure you've guessed it by now - it's the former porn star. So I start reading her bio... She's a big girl, always was, and here's a not safe for work pic to demonstrate. What's not to like? She's purty, as ruebenesque as I like 'em, zaftig, and bisexual. CG would like her, and Candye can sing you to sleep at night. Here's a safe for work pic she has posted on her website. I know many of my West Coast compadres are now laughing at me, 'coz they know her, since Candye just won an award for Best Blues Band in San Diego. Dunno how, but she's escaped me all these days. Hey, you learn sumpin' new every day. :-) I'm callin' some of my buds in the club bidniss to get her booked in the Houston area. ... Link (0 comments) ... Comment mld, June 11, 2002 at 7:09:00 PM CEST My Pics Be Gettin' Famous... I surfed over to the Bleu Edmondson website late last night, to discover that they are using one of the pics I took of him at the Crawfish Festival in Spring on his home page. While I'm flattered, they didn't credit me, which is little itty bitty bit rude. I'd mentioned on the page that the pics were free to use, but asked for a credit. Dude, throw me a bone, why don't ya? Maybe then I can get press creds to the next concert I wanna see. :-) It's difficult to even feign being upset, as I like his music so much. Check out a few of his songs on the file-sharing network of your choice, like "$50 and a Flask of Crown", a honky-tonk road song with a catchy hook... "I'd rope the devil, ride him into town, for $50 and a flask of Crown" ...or "Stripes On My Back", as plantive and authentic a prison song as I've ever heard a white man sing. It's just him and an acoustic guitar - no production fluff to hide behind. So, he's welcome to the pic, along with any of the others I took that night, which you can see here, but I think I oughta at least get one of his CDs, or maybe two, gratis. What do you think? ... They've been resized and compressed for bandwidth reasons. I have the original large hi-res archived. If you'd like them, please drop me an email. Feel free to use them, if you like. I've no real way or interest in enforcing this request, but I'd appreciate it if you'd link or somehow credit me for the pics. Enjoy! ... Link (0 comments) ... Comment |
