But a perceptive person, an investigator, a therapist, a poker player, can see through the mendacious signals the liar uses to try and sell the lie. But while the lips can lie, the body always tells the truth. Facial expressions, unconscious nods and shakes of the head, even eyeblinks make sure that "the Truth will out." First among the signals we use to convey emotion is the smile. A respected researcher has delved into this, and discovered the itty-bitty differences that manifest between the smile that is true and the smile that lies. Can you tell the difference? Try this test to see. Please, if you would, post your score as a comment. I suspect the readers here are more perceptive than most, or they'd be watching the boob tube rather than reading this. :-) My results are here

Dang - you gentlemen seem to have been keener smile discerners than me. I missed 10 - 50%. It may be of interest that of the ten I got wrong, 8 of them were fake smiles I judged genuine. Only two genuine smiles got past me. I did note myself felling things like "she isn't the kind of person to lie" when doing the test, though. Not very objective of me. ... link

Bodes ill for y'all
Do you really think it's a gender thang? If so, I wonder why men seem to be better at filtering out the fakers. I mean, 50% is what you'd expect from random guessing. That's gonna set a person up for some heartache, I expect. And where the hello you been, girl? I've been missing you here and on the list. ... link ... Comment |
